A couple weeks I got to travel to Las Vegas and attend the SuperZoo national show. It's a perk of being BlogPaws COE - Chief Of Everything (and my business cards really say that). It got some good laughs and comments from everyone I met. I can't believe it's been weeks since I was walking the floor, checking out new products and making lots of new contacts. Another business trip the week following SuperZoo and then a week of family visitors has made the last few weeks pretty busy, and I'm finally sitting down to show some of the great things I found.
Since Twiggy is the resident princess, I'll share the Greyhound products I found. It was nice to see several things made for the Greys. They are special in their design!
First, having been through many injuries with Twiggy, including a broken leg that required surgery, I was delighted to find PawFlexTM. PawFlex makes dog friendly bandages, something that I wish I had access to when I became a pro at Twiggy's vet wrap. One of the down sides of the vet wrap is that you have to be careful how you put it on because it's elastic and can cut off circulation. Plus, it has just enough stiffness to create hot spots and it wore through Twiggy's skin on several occasions. That meant that I was now treating a wound the vet wrap was covering AND a wound from the vet wrap itself. :( Those were not fun times! PawFlex is soft, breathable and uses a material that keeps the bandage from rubbing on the dogs skin and creating more wounds. It comes in several sizes to accomodate just about any dog. I had my arm wrapped in it and I am convinced this would have been a big difference in Twiggy's injuries, and I'm investing in some to have on hand. An interesting thing about the great product is that the woman who invented it didn't even know Greyhounds had such fragile skin, but she has received many requests from Greyhound rescues who clued her in to the precious Greyhound! I believe this is a product every dog owner, and especially every Greyhound owner, should know about.
Next, for those who like booties, these special socks by Power Paws are made just for Greyhounds. They actually began with booties for just about any size dog: XXS, XS, S, M, L, XL, XXL, XXXL and realized that Greyhounds are special. None of the sizes they made fit a Greyhound paw because Greyhound paws are not the same shape as other dog paws. So they crafted the right size just for Greyhounds, and they are having them made for Italians and Whippets too! I love when people realize that not every dog is alike and do something special to suit a certain breed. I think these will help Twiggy's reluctance to walk on our wood floors, even though I enjoy watching her delicate prance when she travels across the wood to see out our front window.
And finally, check out these sweaters by Chilly Dog. They are made for all dogs, but they actually make one in Greyhound size, and it has a turtle neck! The handmade sweaters were really nice, wool sweaters with very cute designs. They even make dog scarves! I'm regretting not purchasing one at the show because they were selling them at wholesale prices - what was I thinking?! They retail for between $30 - $50, which is a great deal for the quality of sweater you get. I think Twiggy needs a Santa skull sweater for the holiday season!
There were many cool products at the show, but these were my top three Twiggy products. Hopefully I will be able to post a picture of her in a new sweater with some cute booties, but without any bandanges! I will have some on hand though, just in case!
