I would really love to foster, and someday when my life is a little more managable, I will. Although, I'm pretty sure I would have trouble with it. I'm pretty sure I'd become a Foster Failure...or I'd just end up with A LOT of dogs! BOL! :)
Check out this infographic from Pet360 about fostering. I don't think enough people know that this is an option and I'd like to fix that.
There are just under 24 hours left to check out Sweet Relish using this link and have your account sign up generate a $1 donation to Colorado Greyhound Adoption (CGA). CGA currently has Blake in recovery mode and preparing for his quest to find an adopter. Check him out with his cast:
No, I don't want to put a condiment on a bunch of Greyhounds. I simply love them. :) Twiggy is the first pure Greyhound I have ever had the pleasure to raise, and a pleasure it has not always been. As a youngster she was stubborn and had many issues including separation anxiety, but I love her to bits none the less. She has the sweetest personality and LOVES everyone. Especially children whose faces are the perfect height for lots of licks.
I've said before (in previous posts about my early Twiggy struggles) that Colorado Greyhound Adoption (CGA) truly helped me keep my sanity. I had never dealt with a dog with so many issues and they made me realize I was doing the right things and just needed to be patient and keep doing it. Thank goodness! Twiggy has turned out to be a great dog...mostly. :)
I'm sneaking in just in time to have a Faith Friday update.
Faith continues to come out of her shell and show her fun personality. Heather and JD continue to have hope that Faith will continue to make progress and surprise everyone with her amazing resilience!
One of the ways they are seeking therapy for her is through EFT with Susanne Peach, an AAMET Certified EFT Trainer, teaching EFT, Emotional Freedom Techniques for over 10 years. Susanne is also an advanced EFT practitioner as an EFT Life Coach in the Boulder, Colorado area. Susanne works with Heather to help her release some of the energy she holds onto that creates worry for Faith, and worry for whether Heather is really doing everything she should be to help Faith. I can tell you that she is, but I completely understand her worry. Susanne's practice involves helping facilitate change for people and animals, creating healthier, happier lives.
You can tune in to Susanne's EFT Radio Session where she worked with Heather titled "Breaking the Chain of Worry." The process of EFT focuses on tapping points on your body and the fact that animals and people are energy. You can learn more about EFT and Animaleze here.
While Heather and JD continue exploring hydrotherapy, acupuncture, chiropractic and EFT with Faith, they are loving her and pampering her and making her a part of their pack. And, bathing her whether she likes it or not!
Back on Inspire Me Monday Post #4, I introduced everyone to Faith. I promised more updates about her and her journey and today I deliver update #1. Be sure to read my first Faith post to get caught up if you are not familiar with Faith's story.
Faith had her first hydrotherapy appointment on Saturday, February 2nd. Her foster Mom, Heather, shared with me the details about the appointment and the current outlook for Faith. Her appointment went well overall. Faith was a great sport and is very determined, which is something Heather & JD (foster Dad) believe will help in this journey. I would say I agree with that statement.
Some of you may remember Faith from the Animal Planet show "Underdog to Wonderdog." I encourage you to watch the recap of her episode as your first introduction to her adorableness! Faith is now 3 years old and has yet to be in one family for very long. She has traveled from foster to foster and thought she found a home once, but it didn't last long.
Like many of us, my heart aches for Faith and I begin to go to a place of pity and empathy, but after meeting her, I realize that she doesn't really know that she is different. She doesn't know her limitations and she has as much energy as any 3 year old pup. She wants love, to play, to eat and to belong. And, she's finally in a home that is committed to her both emotionally and physically.
I got a chance to meet Faith this past weekend. She rolled over my foot a few times, bumped into the couch a bit too, but all and all was just an adorable dog looking for attention. I watched her play with the other furry friends in her household and have this video to share:
We hope you rung in the New Year exactly how you wanted to, whether that's with a party or snuggled up on your couch with your fur babies!
Me? I rang it in with Natural Balance in Pasadena, CA as a guest of theirs for the Rose Parade. It was my first Rose Parade and it was a blast. Rather than give you a ton of detail, I'm sharing a few Touts from New Year's Eve and the parade and the post parade event. I'll be writing more about the whole experience soon. It was fun, but also humbling. You'll see why in the videos. Thank you Natural Balance!
Last week I shared a disturbing story about Chloe, a dog in Commerce City, Colorado, who was wrongfully shot to death by a Police Officer. Many people around the area have rallied together to keep Chloe's case in the media so that it doesn't get swept under the rug. My heart aches for Chloe and for her family, and for every dog who could become the next Chloe. That's what Justice for Chloe is about. It's about holding the City and its Officers accountable for their actions. It's about creating change in the way dogs are handled and educating both the public and the Officers about how to handle dogs.
I still have not watched the whole video. I heard the most disturbing 15 seconds of it and I am scarred by that. I will never forget Chloe's last "words" and I hope they haunt every Officer involved in the tragic event. Her senseless death will not be forgotten. Help prevent it from being forgotten and sign her petition and share it.
Wookie is currently at the Longmont Humane Society waiting for his forever home. They are partnering with Colorado Pit Bull Rescue to find Wookie his forever home. He is a special dog. Click here to find out more about him!
