I have a few words this Wordless Wednesday. First, how is it March 20th? I seriously do not know where the last 2 weeks have gone. Second, I'm finally sharing a bit of good news, and I will have more of an update to follow soon. Dre, who spent 49 days away from his family with the threat of euthanasia for being "vicious", just passed his Canine Good Citizen with flying colors! Dre is so far from vicious. He is a loving, loyal family pet who will wear the CGC badge with pride from now on. Go Dre!
The beginning of January tends to be a time for reflection. A time for resolving to do things better or different in the coming year. I definitely added a few things to my To Do list for 2013. One personal one is to listen more; to my family; to my body; to my mind; to my heart. And a blogging on is to Tout more.
If you are not familiar with Tout, it's an app that allows you to record short 15 second videos and uploads them right away to share through Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest. I really enjoy it because 15 seconds is just long enough to get a point across. If you saw my Happy New Year post you got to preview a few recent Touts I did over New Year's Eve and day. Here are few I did throughout 2012. Hopefully 2013 will bring many more! Best wishes to all in 2013!
Secret Santa's are most fun when you truly have no idea who is buying you a gift, and I got to experience that for the first time in a long time this year.
I actually don't even quite remember how I found out about the Furry Friends Secret Santa. I'm pretty sure it was during the big Surprise #BlogPawty. It was definitely during a Twitter pawty. I got a tweet from @ff_secretsanta letting me know about the event and inviting me to find out more. I did just that and a handful of other anipals did too.
It was fun and I think more anipals should participate next year. We gave our Twitter handles and we could even provide a little list of things on our wish list and/or things to avoid. For me it was anything made in China. No China for us please. We ended up with treats, toys and handmade bandanas - pawesome!!
I'm having a lot of trouble processing this right now. Mostly because there is a video that shows what happened. Honestly, I've only watched the edited version because I don't think I can stomach the full video. And I won't share it here because it's too disturbing, but in some ways I think everyone needs to see it so the truth can be exposed. It's hard to miss the truth when there is a video of the events starring at you. (The picture is not of Chloe. It is of Dre who beat the odds and went back home to his family and is now going to test to be an official CGC, Canine Good Citizen.)
To sum it up, Saturday, November 24th, a neighbor in a Commerce City neighborhood called 911 to report a loose dog. From his own account he never called the dog vicious or dangerous or reported any fear of the dog. He just wanted the loose dog picked up. When the police arrived they spent 30 minutes outside the garage where the dog was found, apparently deciding what to do. The dog sat in the garage. At some point they decided to tase the dog twice, as though that is supposed to subdue the dog. And then, when the dog tried to run AWAY from them, not AT them, AWAY from them, they managed to get the catch pole around her neck. Instead of working to subdue this dog who never tried to attack any of them during their 30 minute debate period, they shot her. They shot her 5 times. They killed her.
